Paying in and out of your accounts

Need to pay in a cheque, or withdraw cash? Here's how.

Paying in a cheque? You can do this anytime, anywhere using our App.

  • go to your 'Balances' screen
  • tap the three dots on the account you want to pay the cheque into
  • select 'Pay in a cheque' and enter the amount
  • press 'Capture cheque', take a photo with your phone and follow the on-screen instructions.

Cheques paid in before 10pm on a working day using our App will be available by 11:59pm the next working day (providing it's not been returned unpaid).

 

You can pay in up to £2,000 a day in cheques using our App, with a limit of £2,000 per cheque. For cheque(s) above these limits, see 'Other ways to pay in a cheque'.

Other ways to pay in a cheque

Paying in or withdrawing cash

Paying in at an HSBC UK branch

 

You can pay in cash at any HSBC UK branch that has a counter service. 

 

You won't be able to use the self-service paying in machines.

 

Withdrawing cash at an HSBC UK branch

 

You can withdraw cash at any HSBC UK branch that has a counter service. You'll just need to arrange this with us first by calling 03 456 100 100.

 

You can also use an HSBC UK ATM, up to your daily withdrawal limit (you can manage your daily ATM withdrawal limit on our App). Find out more about how to manage your daily ATM withdrawal limit.

 

As with all payments and withdrawals, this is subject to you having enough money available in your account.

Other ways to pay in and withdraw cash

At the Post Office®

Paying in cash

If you have a 1st Account, you can use your debit card at any UK Post Office® locations across the UK to:

  • check your balance
  • pay in
  • withdraw cash

You can pay in up to £3,000 per day and a total of £20,000 each year at the Post Office®*. To deposit more than this you need to visit an HSBC UK branch with a counter service**.

You can also pay in coins over the counter up to the value of £250 per transaction. Just make sure they’re bagged by denomination.

At a Banking Hub

Paying in and withdrawing cash

Banking Hubs are a dedicated counter service where customers of major banks and building societies can access everyday banking services.

The Banking Hub counter offers the same banking services you’d expect to find in a Post Office®. These include depositing a cheque, balance enquiries, and withdrawing cash or paying cash into your account.

Multi-Bank ATM deposit machine

Paying in and withdrawing cash

You can pay in and withdraw cash from your 1st Account at a Multi-Bank ATM deposit machine.

Find your nearest cash machine and make sure you use the map key and the filter function to find an ATM with depositing capabilities.

Non-HSBC UK ATM's

Withdrawing cash only*

You can use a non-HSBC UK ATM to take out cash, however they may charge a fee, so it's always best to check before making the withdrawal.

Like with HSBC UK ATMs, you’ll only be able to take out cash up to your daily withdrawal limit.

Concerned about your access to cash?

It’s important to us that you’re able to pay in and withdraw cash locally without charge.

 

To do this, use the LiNK Cash Locator to find your nearest free and pay-to-use cash machines, Post Office®, Banking Hub and shops offering cashback.

 

If you still feel like you can’t easily access the cash services you need locally, you can submit a Cash Access Request.

 

Our partners, LiNK, carry out all assessments on our behalf.

You can also write to LiNK to make a Cash Access Request at Link Scheme Ltd (Cash Access Request), Central House, Otley Road, Harrogate, HG3 1UF.

 

LiNK will acknowledge your written request within 72-hours of receipt. They’ll also ask:

  • if you’re looking to take out or pay in cash
  • if you’re a personal or business customer
  • what services you’d like to see in your local area.

LiNK welcome requests from anyone in the local community, including members of the public, elected officials, community groups, charities supporting the local area, and local businesses.
