Sharedealing what we trade

You can deal in most UK shares on the London Stock Exchange including some UK Exchange Traded Funds. You may also deal in most shares on AIM. We do not offer a service that trades on OFEX or any foreign markets.

We currently offer a service in UK Government bonds only. These are also known as Gilts.

No. We currently do not offer a service in either Covered Warrants or traditional corporate warrants.

No. This service is not currently available. However, you can invest in a selection of funds with first direct.

No. We do not offer a certificated share dealing service.  If you hold a share certificate you are able to transfer it into your investment account. This process is called 'dematerialisation'. Just complete a transfer form. You'll find the form in the 'transfer in' section of the 'products & services' page. You need to complete, sign and return the form along with the share certificate to us. We will then arrange to transfer your paper certificate into your investment account.

The dematerialisation process normally takes two weeks to six weeks to complete. You will be unable to trade in any shares that have not fully completed this process.

first direct does not charge to transfer shares from paper to electronic format.
