Contents cover up to £50,000

We'll cover you for the things you expect might happen - and all sorts of things you haven't dreamed of.

Our contents cover includes damage caused by fire, smoke, explosions, lightning, earthquakes, storms or floods. You're covered for water escaping from water tanks, pipes, equipment or fixed heating systems, as well as water freezing in tanks, equipment or pipes. And for heating fuel leaking from a fixed heating system.

Subsidence or heave of the land on which the buildings stand is covered, as is landslip, and falling trees or branches.

And you're obviously covered for theft or attempted theft. So far, so normal.

But then we'll also cover you for damage caused by riots, civil unrest, strikes, labour or political disturbances, and malicious people or vandals.

You're also covered for re-landscaping costs if your garden is damaged by any one of the events listed above.

If your property is hit by aircraft or other flying objects or items dropped from them, or vehicles or animals (a herd of rampaging cows?), you're covered.

You're covered if falling radio or television receiving aerials (including satellite dishes or their fittings) and masts land on your house.

We don't cover:

• the excess(es) shown on your schedule
• damage, loss or theft that happens after the home has been left unoccupied for more than the period shown in your schedule
• loss or damage which happens gradually.

Contents temporarily removed from home up to £5,000

We'll provide cover up to the limit shown on your schedule for loss of or damage to contents by any of the causes listed under 'Contents within the home' while temporarily removed from the home to any bank or safe deposit, or any private home or building where you are living (including while attending full-time education), employed or working in the British Isles or anywhere else in the British Isles.

We don't cover:

• more than the limit shown on your schedule for loss or damage to contents in garages and outbuildings
• loss or damage by theft, unless someone has broken into a building or used force, violence or deception to get in.

Contents in your garden up to £1,000

We'll provide cover for loss of or damage to contents which are in the open within the boundaries of the home, if the loss or damage is caused by anything listed under 'Contents in the home' section of the policy document.

We don't cover:

• loss or damage that happens after the home has been left unoccupied for more than 30 days
• loss of, or damage to, pedal cycles.

Buildings Insurance - What will your policy cover?

As with our contents cover, our buildings cover includes a fairly comprehensive set of eventualities. You're covered for damage caused by fire, smoke, explosions, lightning, earthquakes, storms or floods. Also for water escaping from water tanks, pipes, equipment or fixed heating systems, as well as water freezing in tanks, equipment or pipes. And for heating fuel leaking from a fixed heating system.

You're covered for theft or attempted theft. Subsidence or heave of the land on which the buildings stand, or landslip, and falling trees or branches. If we accept a claim for damage to buildings by falling trees we'll also pay reasonable costs for removing the fallen part of the tree, or the tree itself if it's been totally or partly uprooted.

You're also covered for more unexpected things. Damage caused by riots, civil unrest, strikes, or labour or political disturbances, and malicious people or vandals. Your property being hit by aircraft or other flying objects or items dropped from them, or vehicles or animals. Falling radio or television receiving aerials (including satellite dishes), their fittings and masts.

We don't cover:

• the excess(es) shown on your schedule
• damage that happens after the home has been left unoccupied for more than the period shown on your schedule
• loss or damage which happens gradually.

It doesn't cover:

• the excess(es) shown on your schedule
• damage caused by wear and tear, settlement and shrinkage, vermin, insects, fungus, weather conditions, or any damage which happens gradually
• damage caused by chewing, scratching, tearing or fouling by domestic animals
• damage caused by faulty materials or design, or poor workmanship.

It doesn't cover:

• the excess(es) shown on your schedule
• food in freezers, clothing, contact lenses, stamps and pedal cycles
• damage caused by wear and tear, light, weather conditions, moths, vermin, insects, fungus, damp, rust, wet or dry rot, or anything which happens gradually
• damage caused by chewing, scratching, tearing or fouling by domestic animals.

Personal belongings

Protect your personal belongings, wherever you are in the world. You can select cover between £2,000 and £10,000 with a single item limit of £1,500.

Your chosen limit will be shown in your policy schedule.

We don't cover:

• the excess(es) shown on your schedule
• theft from an unattended vehicle (other than from a locked and concealed boot, concealed luggage compartment or closed glove compartment of a securely locked vehicle which has been broken into by using force and/or violence).
• loss or damage caused by wear and tear, light, weather conditions, moth, vermin, insects, fungus, damp, rust, wet or dry rot, or anything which happens gradually
• loss or damage to sports racquets, sticks, bats and clubs while in use.

Pedal cycles - between £300 and £2,500 towards loss or damage

Protect your pedal cycles wherever you are in the world:

We don't cover:

• loss or damage to tyres or accessories unless the pedal cycle is stolen or damaged at the same time
• theft while away from the home, unless in a building or securely locked to an immovable object.
